Nightly Tree Lighting | Irvine SpectrumNovember 24, 2023 – January 7, 2023From Nov. 24 to Jan. 7, stop by the beautifully decorated 75-foot tree in Giant Wheel Court every night to see it come to life with a choreographed light show every 30 minutes beginning at 5 pm. In Huntington Harbour, Balboa and Dana Point there were annual boat parades and decorated houses lining the water. All holiday festivities are included in the price of theme park admission. To find the best ones, look for neighborhoods that hold competitions or are known for their extravagant holiday displays (if you live near a city, you almost certainly have a few of these near you). For ease of use, this holiday events in Orange County list is organized by city in alphabetical order.

Here are dozens of events in OC for celebrating the holidays

Christmas light displays typically come on at sunset or shortly thereafter and stay on until bedtime-ish (9 or 10 p.m.). Generally, though, you can expect major light displays to be up by at least the day after Thanksgiving or December 1st. Some places get their holiday displays up as early as reasonably appropriate (pretty much right after Halloween), while others wait until a little later in the season. On Dec. 15, 16 and 17, the park will be open for taking pictures and wandering through its twinkling light displays. The 2018 production is directed by Matt August and choreographed by Bob Richard based on the original choreography by John DeLuca and originally created by 3-time Tony Award® winning director, Jack O’Brien. Universal Studios brings in all sorts of decorations and theming to transform this usually much more "normal" area into a miniature Whoville to celebrate the season. The good news is, there are plenty of free Christmas light displays and shows as well. Again, it really depends on the place and people in charge of the lighting displays. To reduce overall wait times, families are strongly encouraged to make a reservation in advance of their visit. While strongly encouraged, a reservation is not required, and walk-up visits will be accommodated on a space-available basis.

Activities also include holiday shopping for exclusive items within the village shops, including personalized ornaments and notebooks, and dining on hearty holiday fare at Three Broomsticks™. Park-goers can rock-around the topsy-turvy 65-foot tall "Grinchmas" tree, decorated with ornaments and LED lights. There's a tree lighting every evening where guests can celebrate with characters from the Christmas classic. Christmas Train | Irvine Park RailroadNovember 24 – December 23, 2023‘Tis the season for Irvine Park Railroad’s annual Christmas Train.

With additional music and lyrics by Mel Marvin and Timothy Mason, Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical breathes new life into the timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Along with wearing appropriate clothing (layers are essential when doing walk-through displays!), you’ll want to bring a few things with you to a Christmas lights display, especially if you’re bringing kids. For big for-profit displays, like drive-through light shows and light mazes, the first and last hours tend to be the least trafficked, making these ideal times to visit.

From the first “Bah humbug” to the final “Wassail,” this timeless classic is sure to rekindle your family’s holiday spirit. Join all your favorite Dickens characters—Tiny Tim and the Cratchits, the Fezziwigs, the Ghosts of Christmas past, present and yet-to-come, and of course, everyone’s favorite curmudgeon, Ebenezer Scrooge, portrayed by beloved SCR Founding Member Richard Doyle. Scroll down for a great list that you can check out next time you’re wondering what to do during the winter and Christmas holidays in Orange County.

During the holiday season, orange packaging was made a little more festive with symbols of Christmas printed on the tissue paper, typically by a local newspaper. Twisted in the merry paper, the orange became a gift of sorts that was regarded even more highly outside of the county. The spirited “Grinchmas” Who-bilation also returns with an all-new daytime performance featuring the Who-Bee Doo-Wops group, Who-ville’s latest musical sensation rocking out to hip-swinging, bell-ringing holiday classics for the Whos and guests to enjoy. The Musical, Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos.

At Founders’ Park in Anaheim, the history of Orange County’s citrus-packing houses and Victorian Christmas traditions are celebrated at the Victorian Christmas Open House on Dec. 10. The historic Woelke-Stoffel House is a two-story Queen Anne built in 1894 during Anaheim’s citrus era and is named for the two earliest families that lived in it. The holiday cheer also spreads to Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Super Silly Funland, where the Merry Minions will be spreading cheer. The Grinch has taken up residence in a Yorba Linda home on 5792 Grandview Street that features scenes from the Jim Carey movie.

The display has 65 custom-made props with almost 50,000 lights. The interactive display also has a couple of buttons marked “do not press” – when pressed they dump the Grinch into a trash barrel and fire shoots out of the back of a sleigh. A neighborhood in Fullerton is so popular that simply typing, “sparkleball” into Google Maps will direct you to streets full of lit-up balls hanging from trees to drive through. Grinchmas in Orlando is located at Islands of Adventure theme park. These displays are generally donation-based, so you can pay what you can afford.
